Barack Obama After the U.S. Election

As the world expect that Barack Obama must win, and indeed that is exactly occurred at 10:48 WIB, Obama declared as a winner. So what the implications for the United States and the world, including Indonesia?

If the central theme of Obama during the campaign period before the election yesterday, is one of the practices of free trade and globalization, which results in more jobs thrown (outsourced) from AS to the developing countries, especially China, India and Vietnam. In short, Obama are going to become protectionist sentiment in order to improve the national economy of the United States.

In addition, whether this is a problem for developing countries such as Indonesia? Actually not so much, as the two main reasons. First, as what already mentioned in The Economist the magazine, Obama is not going to make its policy which may be too extreme as it is called the China-bashing trade policy. Second, the people around the world began to feel the current weakness of the globalization that has biased to more multinational companies that dominate the domestic affairs of developing countries. This means that the world economic order is currently waiting for intervention from political changes in the U.S. in order to bring economic and political world that is more equitable and stable.

McCain fully supports free trade through the expansion of many multinational companies without direct government intervention, and what have just the U.S. government doing at this time. Unfortunately, the world seems tired with the status quo of the globalization.
In other words, the world seems to be ready to accept the possibility of Osama’s protectionist sentiment compared with the government must return the excessive domination of multinational companies. This means that, if Obama were not elected, the world economy would witness the growing sentiment of nationalism through the government's full support in developing countries to national companies, especially those owned by the state.

Conversely, if Obama elected, the struggle of economic nationalism will take place more in multilateral forums like the WTO and the UN. However, we can be consoled because basically, both candidates fully aware of the reality that globalization may not be, but need to be improved.
Then how about the meaning of the U.S. election results for Indonesia?
As a nation with a population of the world's fourth largest, as the largest economy in Southeast Asia, and as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, U.S. citizens must be proactive convince the world, especially U.S. President elected, that we are the friends who supported and important to relation to any country.

Because as we see that neither McCain nor Obama have one good understanding about the world: that the U.S. needs to add a friend and reduce the opponent. Moreover, anyone elected as American President, all people around the world agree that the world needs a change in the fundamental and comprehensive enough. These changes, among others, from the world of full competition into the world of cooperation, or cooperation. From the process of globalization that glamorize growth into a globalization of the development. From the decisions taken in the bilateral between the big countries to become more forums and a decision among multilateral or bilateral relation, for example, between ASEAN and the EU. Will the world's hopes of victory over Obama can bring significant changes to the constellation of political progress, economic, and other life in the world? The time determine!!!***b@sti.
